Parrott patented projectile with high brass sobot ring which was cast around the base. This sabot design had six indentations, the purpose of the indentations was to hep keep the sabot from slipping while the propellant charge forced the sabot into the grooves of the rifle.
Percussion Hotchkiss projectile, manufactured without flame grooves, designed to detonate on impact. This hotchkiss projectile has an iron anvil cap percussion fuze that was patented by C.W. Smith and T.D. Stetson on March 25th, 1862. The fuze design was first used at West Point, New York, on its test range for artillery projectiles and cannon, and it is commonly referred to as a West Point type percussion fuze.
