    April 3, Today has been a joyful day in the city. We have just gotten the news of the capture of Richmond. 

    April 7. Oh what excitement there has been here today the news that Lee and his whole army had surrendered, the bells, were wrong, whistles blowed, and the cannons fired.

     April 10 we have had a grand celebration over the surrender of General Lee.

    Tuesday, April 18 there is a great feeling in the city. It is dangerous for anyone to say anything against the government. April 19 today has been the funeral of the president. The houses almost all over the city have been draped in black and the engine is most of the shops has stopped.
